After losing my son to suicide, I knew that facing Christmas for the first time was not going to be easy.  Gifts just meant shopping trips and that was the furthest thing from my mind.  I knew we had to celebrate the holidays somehow, because we neede to spend this time together.  After searching for ideas…desperate for something to bring joy to my family.

I found a candle lighting ceremony that seemed to fit well.  Basically I have 3 unlit candles set up.  Each candle represented something for Adam.  As one person reads the passage, another would light a candle.  The ceremony takes 5 minutes and allows all of us to spend some time remembering Adam.  The candles remain lit during the festivities and we are able to enjoy each other’s company.

Search online for candle lighting ceremonies and find one that suits your family.
