Some days are definitely better than others, but I strive to focus on the blessings that come with each day, no matter how small. This was not so easy during the first years after losing my son to suicide. In fact, this was nearly impossible for a while. As time has passed I have learned that there are some things that put my mind at ease, even during those darker days.
I have discovered the outdoors! Fresh air and sunshine can have an amazing impact on the mind, body and soul. I was never much of an outdoorsy person growing up, but now I enjoy snowshoeing in the winter, hiking, kayaking, gardening and boating in the summer. We are lucky enough to live on a lake where nightly sunsets provide peace and tranquility.
